As Judge Robert Clive Jones enters the courtroom, plaintiff Frank Romano takes a deep breath. Finally, after all this time, his opportunity to seek justice has arrived. As Judge Jones bangs his gavel, a trial to determine the responsibility for the largest cheating scandal in Nevada Gaming History begins. Several years earlier, beneath the neon lights of Las Vegas, Romano became a partner in the American Coin Company. In the 1980s, as the company grew to be the third largest slot company in Nevada, Romano was content with his challenging and profitable work, despite regularly being at odds with his partners over the operating principles of the business. But in 1989, Romano's world changed forever when American Coin was seized and closed by the Gaming Control Board for rigging programs. In his gripping story of white collar crime, Frank shares the incredible details of his fall from grace and how he dedicated the rest of his life to recovering his monetary losses and professional reputation. American Coin provides an unforgettable glimpse behind closed doors of Nevada's biggest gaming scandal as one man embarks on a road to redemption lined with betrayal, deception, and murder.

I was excited to read this one because as a kid I remember the hoopla on the news about this saga at American Coin. I left disappointed as it is more about Mr Romano and his day to day life than it is about the story surrounding American Coin. Mr. Romano seems like a great guy and all but there is far too much filler about him driving home and hugging his daughter then sending faxes etc...book could easily be half as long. It was a tough read and frankly for a somewhat exciting "plot" quite boring. SorryProduct details

American Coin A True Story of Betrayal Gambling and Murder in Las Vegas Frank Romano 9781475985085 Books Reviews
Even for Vegas, this story of such extravagant, reckless treachery is startling. This first-person account manages, with plain language and (amazingly) good humor, to unravel the complex technical, financial, and personal drama of Frank Romano's journey from the first glimmer of trouble to the final day in court. It's a good read with a stunning ending and an even MORE stunning epilogue. Get this book.
This book was a very good summary of the American Coin cheating scandal, from the other side. Romano produced an impressive collection of direct quotes.
I was not aware that what I thought of as "prevention" of Royal Flushes was only a "reduction". Also, I didn't lnow that this "jackpot reduction" also applied to Keno.
For a dramatization of this case, see "City Confidential", whose Las Vegas episode summarizes the case.
Nice read for casino players!
Interesting behind the scenes look at the slot industry.
My husband's cousin wrote this book. It's very compelling. It's a true story.
Only in Las Vegas! This man spent the best years of his life fighting for the
truth. See this man thru the eyes of this book. He was a wonderful man, husband
and father who never gave up the fight.
A great behind the scenes look at the slot machine and video poker business in Las Vegas. The author brings you in the backrooms, behind the scenes, as well as even an inside look into the video poker machines themselves and why they are hard to gaff, but there are idiots who attempt it, but generally will get caught including the how and why of it.
Also it includes a lesson on why never to mix family and business especially with your father in-law and why it rarely ends well.
The statement early in the book that the legal system and the justice system are two different things. I have had my own bad guys that stole by lying and taking advantage, one an attorney is finally doing a short person stint. My health suffered, but I hope to maintain grace and faith. Thanks for the read.
Great story for anyone interested in Las Vegas or just enjoys gambling a little or a lot.
Mr Romano explains just how the casinos are set up and how they purchase their games.
I can finally convince my friend that casino can't put her name on a list so that when she puts her card in the slot
machine a someone upstairs blocks her from winning. LOL
If you aren't interested in gambling and just want to read a good book about what goes on behind closed doors
at the casinos I think you will like this book.
